A defiant Jharal Yow Yeh says he has not given up on playing in the NRL again despite another injury delaying his comeback.
Still to regain full pace and movement since suffering a horror ankle compound fracture in March 2012, Yow Yeh is now also recovering from a broken hand suffered while moving a fridge for his mum.
The latest setback sparked reports on Monday that the 23-year-old had told Broncos teammates he was “resigned to never returning” to the NRL.
However, the Brisbane flyer made it clear he had not given up on his NRL dream.
“Hey tweeps just letting you all know that the article in the paper are all false and I will not be resigning from the NRL,” Yow Yeh tweeted.
“I have not even had that thought in my head…”
Still, Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough couldn’t believe Yow Yeh’s luck.
“He’s obviously done something to get bad karma,” he said with a smile.
“He’s battling back, keeping his head up.
“The great thing about it is that he is positive around the club and not moping – he is giving some blokes stick which is good.”
Yow Yeh underwent skin grafts and eight operations in 10 months before finally returning in the third-tier FOGS Cup in April – more than a year after suffering the devastating right ankle injury against South Sydney in Perth.
McCullough said Yow Yeh’s attitude throughout his ordeal had been inspiring.
“He still enjoys coming to training,” he said.
“He’s in high spirits even after breaking his hand carrying a fridge for his mum.
“He’s really confident in his ability to get back.
“If not, he’s going to do the best he can.”
