Australian opening batsman David Warner will have to front a Cricket Australia disciplinary hearing after being reported for launching a Twitter tirade against two News Limited journalists.
Warner was reported for breaching CA’s code of behaviour, with a date for the hearing to be set on Monday.
The left-hander is currently playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, and took exception on social media to an article written by journalist Robert Craddock which was critical of the IPL.
News Ltd colleague Malcolm Conn came to the defence of Craddock, sparking a heated back-and-forth exchange.
Warner, who has over 190,000 followers on Twitter, labelled Craddock a “p**ck”, said journalists “talk s***” and branded Conn an “old fart” in his explosive series of tweets on Saturday.
Warner’s colourful language is alleged to have breached rule 6: Unbecoming Behaviour, regarding comments posted on his twitter account.
The rule states that “players and officials must not at any time engage in behaviour unbecoming to a representative player or official that could (a) bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute or (b) be harmful to the interests of cricket…this rule applies at all times where the unbecoming behaviour involves the player being involved in public comment or comment to or in the media.”
