Cats’ Kelly banned for two AFL games

Veteran Geelong midfielder James Kelly is out for two matches after the AFL tribunal on Tuesday found him guilty of a high bump on Essendon’s Brendon Goddard.

The three-man jury took just six minutes to rule that Kelly made forceful contact to Goddard’s neck or head.

Goddard gave evidence that there was no high contact.

Kelly and Geelong football manager Neil Balme made no comment after the hearing.

Apart from the two-game ban for the rough conduct charge, Kelly also has 89 carryover points hanging over him for 12 months.

That is only 11 points short of a another one-game ban.

Kelly would have received the same suspension had he taken an early plea.

But there would have been only 16 carryover points.
