Teen golf star aims for British Open

Australian No.1 amateur Su-Hyun Oh will be out to use next month’s Ladies British amateur title as a springboard into the Women’s British Open.

The 16-year-old heads a team of six Victorians to the amateur championship in South Wales.

The group also includes Grace Lennon, 20, the leading amateur at the 2013 Victorian Open.

Oh and Lennon recently combined to help the Australian team to victory in the prestigious international Queen Sirikit Cup tournament.

Other members of the team include 15-year-old Julienne Soo, already a three-time state representative, and Victorian state team captain Jo Charlton.

The Ladies British Amateur Championship will be played from June 11-15 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Machynys Peninsula Golf and Country Club, near Llanelli in South Wales.

The winner of the event will earn a spot in the field for the Women’s British Open to be played over the Old Course, St Andrews.

She will also be eligible to contest the US Women’s Open and the Evian Championship.
