The international cricketers’ association wants the International Cricket Council (ICC) to investigate what it calls possible vote “fixing” in a recent ballot to choose a member of one of the governing body’s committees.
The Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) said on Tuesday they “formally call” on the ICC to instigate an ethics committee enquiry into Indian Laxman Sivaramakrishnan’s election onto the ICC’s Cricket Committee.
Sivaramakrishnan beat out Australian FICA chief executive Tim May in a poll which the players’ body says was flawed, because some of the 10 test captains who voted were allegedly pressured to change their selections by the powerful Indian cricket board to back its preferred candidate.
Calling for an independent investigation, FICA president Jimmy Adams says the matter casts “serious doubt” on the ICC’s “willingness to adhere to proper governance.”
