Victorian three-year-old Hvasstan, to be ridden by champion jockey Glen Boss, has been heavily backed to win tomorrow’s South Australian Derby, firming from $4.80 into $4.00 with online bookmaker sportsbet this week.

If the trend continues he will push Shoreham, who’s currently atop the betting at $3.70 for favouritism in the Morphettville Group 1.

“Hvasstan has received eight times the amount of support than any other runner. He’s the only horse punters want and is one of the best backed runners anywhere,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Elsewhere in the Derby, there’s been solid backing for Gerontius with the David Hayes trained gelding firming from $13 into $8.50, and also Molto Bene, who’s into $13 from $17.
Sportsbet.com.au will refund punters their bet on the SA Derby if their selection runs second in the race.
On the Gold Coast, the Peter Moody trained Lights Of Heaven is solid a $2.90 favourite to go one better than last year and win the Hollindale Stakes, but faces stiff opposition from Foreteller ($4.40) and Danleigh ($13) who have both caught the punters eye.
