Essendon have lost ruckman Patrick Ryder for their next three matches after he accepted an AFL ban.
Bombers forward Nick Kommer has accepted a two-game suspension, while Greater Western Sydney youngster Devon Smith will miss one match.
But Giants teammate Dean Brogan will face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night to contest a rough conduct charge deemed too serious for the ruckman to be able to accept a set penalty.
Brogan has been charged over an off-the-ball clash with St Kilda’s Jack Newnes during the first quarter of Saturday night’s match in Canberra.
Newnes was subbed out of the game with concussion and possibly a broken jaw.
The Giants, who have employed prominent Melbourne QC David Galbally to fight the charge, will argue that Brogan was heading to the interchange bench when Newnes tried to block his path.
The only vision of the incident was behind-the-goals footage from a distance.
Ryder was suspended over a high bump which concussed Fremantle’s Luke McPharlin and Kommer over a high bump on Docker Kepler Bradley.
Smith was sanctioned for rough conduct against Saint Jarryn Geary.
