Melbourne coach Mark Neeld says the embattled AFL team are doing everything they can to turn around their horror start to the season.
The pain is expected to continue on Saturday when they host West Coast at the MCG.
On Tuesday, Melbourne chief executive Cameron Schwab resigned and the team had a one-day camp in the wake of the humiliating 148-point loss to Essendon.
That followed a 79-point loss to Port Adelaide in round one.
“That confidence word is a big one – they don’t sell it at the supermarket,” Neeld said.
“You can’t find it at Coles, go down and find a jar of it.
“We continue to do a whole range of things.
“The worst thing a football club can do when you’ve lost a couple (of games) … is to sit on your hands and do nothing.
“We’re having a go.”
There was some good news for the Demons on Friday, with co-captain Jack Grimes signing a three-year deal.
He has been one of few bright spots for Melbourne so far this season.
“He’s a very good leader, Jack, and his leadership is developing every day he walks through the door at this place,” Neeld said.
“For him to get on the front foot and come to the club and say ‘I’m in it for the long haul’ … it’s a really good reflection on Jack.”
A group of Melbourne fans also gave the team vocal support at Friday morning’s training session.
It was a pleasant surprise for Neeld and his players, who were booed after the last two losses.
Neeld admitted he did not expect such support and called it fantastic.
“That was great, the show of support from the fans,” Neeld said.
“The playing group certainly enjoyed that, training in front of some genuine support.
“They made a lot of noise and made everyone feel good about themselves.”
Neeld said he had spoken to Jack Watts, who was dropped after being subbed out of the Essendon game.
Asked if he still had the players on side, Neeld said: “Absolutely”.
