English world number 3 Justin Rose has been heavily supported to win the US Masters with punters slashing his price from $23 into $17 with Sportingbet Australia.
Rose, who finished one shot behind champion Zach Johnson in 2007, has attracted a number of significant four figure bets.
“One punter has backed Rose to win $100,000 and he’s attracting just as many bets as Tiger Woods, “ Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.
“We’ve also taken a $30,000 bet on Rose to finish top ten at odds of $2.50 and he’s officially our worst result,” Brown said.
Woods, who is chasing his first major title in 5 years, is a clear-cut $4.50 favourite ahead of Rory McIlroy at $10. Phil Mickelson is third favourite at $13.
“Tiger has won three out of his last five tournaments so he’s a deserved favourite and he’s bound to be around the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round,” Brown said.
Adam Scott is the best of the four Australian contenders at $23, ahead of Jason Day at $51, Marc Leishman at $161 and John Senden at $201.
“The Aussies have been largely neglected by punters and the biggest bet we’ve taken is $500 on Scott to win,” Brown said.
