Tassie cricket coach Coyle to stay in game

Tasmania’s most successful coach Tim Coyle says he’ll stay in the mentoring game when he leaves the state’s set-up.

Coyle has delivered the Tigers their only three Sheffield Shield titles and two one-day cups in his eight seasons at the helm.

He announced last year this season would be his last and leaves having won the Shield again following Tuesday’s drawn final with Queensland.

“I just love coaching cricket and I love working with cricketers,” he said.

“My future at the moment is pretty much a bit of a blank canvas.”

Coyle, 52, will do some part-time work at the centre of excellence in Brisbane before considering his options.

“I’ve got a few other things to consider that are on the table,” he said.

“I think you’ll see me around cricket.”

He said he had no regrets about walking away at a pinnacle point in the state’s cricketing stocks.

“My reasons were good and I believe it’s exactly the right time for me to move on and for someone new to come in and grab the group and maybe take them to something even better,” he said.

“It’s going to be a tough job to do that.

“They’ve been very successful.”

” … We’re leading the competition.

“Go back eight or 10 years ago we were making up the numbers in many people’s eyes.”
