Travis Burns’ first Super League try helped Hull KR ease past Castleford on Sunday to consolidate their play-off place with a 26-22 win.
The former Penrith and Manly NRL player went over for Rovers as they raced to a 10-0 lead after Michael Dobson set up Kris Welham for the second.
However, Castleford, led by Rangi Chase, fought back to lead 16-14 at halftime, with Kirk Dixon, Jake Webster and Richard Owen all crossing before the break.
After halftime, Hull KR took control with two quick tries from Josh Hodgson and Craig Hall to move 10 points clear again, only for the Tigers to respond with a try against the run of play from Daryl Clark.
But the loss of former New Zealand international Webster with an arm injury appeared to affect Castleford and they couldn’t complete a comeback.
The other game that had been scheduled for Sunday between Leeds and Wakefield was postponed for the second time at the weekend because of heavy snow, having already been rearranged on Friday.
Meanwhile, Wigan were one of four teams to pull within a point of leaders Huddersfield after scoring 11 tries in a 62-4 demolition of Widnes with Pat Richards among the scorers.
The 31-year-old, who played for Parramatta and Wests Tigers in the NRL, made his way onto the scoresheet 16 minutes into the second half and also contributed nine goals.
The Warriors sit second but are level on 11 points with four others including Catalan Dragons, who defeated Bradford Bulls 30-10.
Hull FC drew 18-18 with London Broncos, with Ben Galea scoring Hull’s first try.
On Friday, St Helens and Warrington were the two other teams to pull within a point of Huddersfield – the latter defeating the leaders 28-2.
And Francis Meli grabbed one of St Helens’ two tries in the 14-10 win over Salford City Reds.
