Barba set to return in round four

Canterbury superstar Ben Barba looks set to make his NRL comeback in the side’s Good Friday showdown with South Sydney in round four.

Barba, who was suspended indefinitely by the Bulldogs last month to deal with his off-field issues, was last week discharged from a private treatment facility.

Bulldogs coach Des Hasler revealed after the club’s 20-16 win over Parramatta last week Barba had begun training with coaching staff at Belmore but ruled him out of Thursday’s grand final rematch against the Storm in Melbourne.

Barba is due to attend his first team training session in three weeks on Sunday with Hasler planning to unleash the Dally M Medallist against Greg Inglis and the Rabbitohs in the blockbuster March 29 encounter at ANZ Stadium, News Limited reports.

“He’s a spectacular player and it’s great for the game,” said Souths chief executive Shane Richardson.

“This match is becoming like the Anzac Day game and to have both Ben and Greg Inglis on the field will make it even more special.

“We got a big crowd last year and we’ll get an even bigger one this time.”
