Vics lose McKay for vital Shield clash

Victorian strike bowler Clint McKay will miss the rest of the cricket season with a stress reaction.

He is the big change to the Bushrangers’ squad for the vital Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania, starting on Thursday in Hobart.

Victoria hold top spot on the Shield ladder with one round left, but all six sides could still host next week’s final.

The Bushrangers announced on Tuesday that McKay, Australian cricket’s one-day player of the year, has a stress reaction in his right foot.

They expect he will be sidelined for three to four weeks.

“From a bowling point of view, it hurts us to lose McKay,” Bushrangers coach Greg Shipperd said.

Ryan Sidebottom, the brother of Collingwood star Steele, will come into the squad.

Sidebottom played for a Victorian side last month against the English Lions, but this is the first time he has made the Bushrangers squad for a first-class game.

Victoria have also left Clive Rose out of their 13-man squad and recalled Scott Boland.

Victoria Squad: Cameron White (capt), Fawad Ahmed, Scott Boland, Peter Handscomb, John Hastings, Jayde Herrick, Michael Hill, David Hussey, Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Will Sheridan, Ryan Sidebottom, Marcus Stoinis.
