The Brumbies have locked up first-choice halfback Nic White for another season, extending his contract to the end of the 2014 Super Rugby season.

White, 22, has established himself as the Brumbies’ leading halfback over the past two seasons, making 19 appearances.

He was on the bench behind Will Genia for all three of Australia’s home Tests against Wales last June, but is still waiting to make his senior international debut.

White’s re-signing is more good news for the Australian conference-leading Brumbies going into Saturday’s big clash with the Waratahs in Canberra.

“The Brumbies gave me my first chance as a younger guy, so it was always my intention to continue my rugby in Canberra,” said White, who was born in the NSW town of Scone.

“The program at the Brumbies has allowed me to make significant improvements to my game, but I feel like I still have plenty of room to get better.

Brumbies coach Jake White said his namesake had substantially improved both the attacking and the defensive elements of his game.

“He spent most of 2012 battling a shoulder problem, so with that out of the way we are expecting Nic to have a big season.

“Along with guys like David Pocock, Stephen Moore and Ben Alexander, Nic’s contract extension allow us to plan for a strong future at the Brumbies.”
