The combination of racing and travel has honed Silver Wedding into a formidable competitor, now poised to chase a Stakes race triumph.

Currently boasting four wins from thirteen starts, the Ciaron Maher-trained mare is entered for the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic over 1200 metres at Ipswich on Saturday.

As a sibling to the esteemed Group 1 victor Schwarz, Silver Wedding will be represented by the Joliestar colours, with Joliestar also contesting the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot this Saturday night under Chris Waller’s care.

“She has got a huge pedigree, being a sister to Schwarz,” Maher stated. “And Brendan and Jo (Lindsay), they have been good supporters of the stable.”

Silver Wedding has a strong record in Brisbane with three victories and ventured to New Zealand earlier this year for the Aotearoa Classic at Ellerslie during their Summer Carnival.

The mare made a strong impression on her return, winning over 1000m at Eagle Farm on May 30, a result that aligned with the Maher team’s expectations.

“She’s a horse that we’ve always given time to but has always shown ability,” Maher remarked. “We’ve seen glimpses (of form) lots of time and each prep she improves. When she was up in Brisbane last time she improved and when she went to New Zealand, I thought that was a huge run, given the ground she covered. She’s had a break and even in her run first-up, you can see she’s improved again, although she showed she was very forward in condition with her first-up run. The 1000 (metres), it didn’t surprise me, but I thought it might be too short for her, but she was very dominant and the step up to 1200 metres (on Saturday) will suit. Ipswich can be a bit tricky, but I think she will show her class.”

Silver Wedding is set to start from barrier 10 in a field of 21, which includes five emergencies. Get the best online bookmakers for the Ipswich meeting.
