Mick Price alongside Michael Kent Jnr have trained Buggsy to settle better in races prior to his Caulfield appearance.
The son of Harry Angel delivered a commanding 1000m debut win at Sandown last month, heading into Saturday’s Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) for his next run.
After a month’s break, these Cranbourne trainers have prioritised improving Buggsy’s tractability.
Buggsy pressed forward early in his Sandown victory, displaying strong finishing speed, with Price and Kent Jnr looking forward to his 1200m performance.
Kent Jnr viewed the initial win as from a talented but raw horse.
He labelled Buggsy a high-octane colt getting accustomed to racing procedures, which should benefit him on track.
“He looked like a sitting duck at the top of the straight (on debut) and what we found was that he was as strong as anything past the line,” Kent Jnr said.
“I think he’ll really enjoy the tempo of 1200 metres as he’ll be able to travel a bit longer.
“He’s had a four-and-a-half-week gap, so we’ve given him a couple of gallops sitting off a mate where he has leant to be a bit more tractable.
“He’s also had a couple of longer gallops where he has got into the groove of finding his rhythm and finishing off his gallop.
“We’re really happy with him and I think he’ll give a great sight.”
Thomas Stockdale replaces Craig Williams, who rode the colt on debut.
Buggsy, a $300,000 buy from October’s Inglis Ready To Run Sale, has potential to extend his stablemates’ two-year-old wins this season, like Guest House’s Group 1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill last month.
