Patience and education have been the focus for Plaintiff this preparation, and trainer Peter Snowden believes that foundation has set the unbeaten filly up for a productive autumn and winter campaign across two states.
The Zoustar filly maintained her perfect record when she charged home to win Saturday’s Macquarie St Social Handicap (1300m) at Randwick, taking her tally to three wins from as many starts.
That performance has earned Plaintiff a brief freshen, and while the early autumn features such as the Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) and Surround Stakes (1400m) will arrive too soon, Snowden remains confident she can still play a role later in the Sydney carnival.
“The Surround was on the radar but it’s going to come a bit too early,” Snowden said.
“It’s more important to me to teach her how to be a racehorse than going in there half-hearted.
“The groundwork is done now. She is educated.
“We know her ability, we know she can race from the front or the back, so she is very adaptable, and she’s got a great turn of foot. I’m sure there are good things ahead for her.”
Snowden said the plan is to identify a suitable race later in the Sydney autumn before potentially shifting focus north for the Queensland winter carnival.
He added that Plaintiff’s ability to continue stepping up in grade and delivering each time has reinforced the stable’s belief in her upside.
“I’m sure she will make her mark here and probably go to Brisbane later on for the winter carnival and find a decent race up there,” Snowden said.
“She’s had three starts and she’s just kept getting better with each one.
“She’s won a midweek maiden, a Saturday race her next start and another Saturday race here.
“You don’t often see that unless they’re way above average and she has earned a good rest now. It won’t be long, three or four weeks, but I can’t wait for her to come back in.”
Sent out the $2.80 favourite, Plaintiff showed further versatility after settling off the pace before finishing strongly to edge past Shady Road ($9) by a neck, with Big Papa ($6) another half-length back in third.
Plaintiff’s next target and future carnival prospects can be assessed through markets available via Australia’s betting sites list.
