Brad Widdup says he won’t be losing sleep over the drying conditions at Randwick as his star filly Savvy Hallie presses on to the second leg of the Princess Series this weekend.

The Silver Shadow Stakes winner, who also scored a dominant 5-1/2 length romp at Newcastle nine days earlier, will line up in Saturday’s Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m). Her quick back-up victory last start had Widdup convinced she was no ordinary filly. “It was a pretty good effort to do that and in a short period. You can’t do that with a normal horse,” he said.

While her preference seems to be rain-affected ground, Widdup is comfortable she can handle firmer conditions. “I think she does like a bit of the sting out of the ground but she’s had three runs on good tracks for two seconds so still acceptable and they were in nice races.”

Drawn ideally in barrier five, Savvy Hallie will face 15 rivals including Silver Shadow runner-up Within The Law, who has been dealt the outside gate, and beaten favourite Agarwood who has come up with barrier 10. Talented Apocalyptic, from Michael Freedman’s yard, has the rails.

The Furious Stakes is the second chapter in the Princess Series, with the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) to follow.
