Star searching for feature sprint win in Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final 2025

With entries looking sparse for the Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final, trainer John Moloney seized the chance to nominate his consistent mare Hearcomesthestar for a possible black-type breakthrough.

Though rated a $16 outsider, the four-year-old daughter of Zoustar boasts a solid resume with five wins and five placings from 21 starts, and Moloney is optimistic she can outperform her market price.

“When she ran fourth at Flemington last start in the benchmark 90, they didn’t run that much slower than they did in the straight six handicap,” Moloney said, referring to her June 21 run.

“If you scale it back on weights and measures, which everyone likes to do, it means she would have been competitive in that under the weight scale that she’ll carry – 54 kilos – on Saturday.”

The trainer is confident that soft going and the 1200m trip will be no barrier to a bold performance.

“She’s in good order, so why not?” he said.

Marble Nine, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens in partnership with Will Larkin, heads the market as the $3.20 favourite and is chasing a hat-trick of wins.
