Josh Parr has kicked off his midweek meeting with another win, maintaining his strong run of form by scoring in the opening race at Warwick Farm.
Fresh from a treble at Rosehill on Saturday, which included victories aboard Rolling Magic, Thunderlips, and Elamaz in the McKell Cup, Parr struck early again on Wednesday.
Riding the Hawkes Racing-prepared Dyami ($1.90 fav), Parr took control early and steered the gelding to the front, keeping the challengers at bay to land the Captivant @ Kia Ora Plate (1200m) by a margin of 1-1/2 lengths over Rach ($10).
The victory came at Parr’s first time aboard the Rubrick three-year-old, and he was impressed with the colt’s performance.
“He did everything really well for me. He jumped well, took up the lead comfortably and was willing to do so,” Parr said.
“When we were in for a fight the last section he dug deep and got the victory.
“He just kept responding to vigorous riding too. I love a horse like that, that is competitive, and the team has done a good job to get him here and win today off what looked a disappointing performance last time.”
In the following event, Tomato Toastie ($8.50) proved too good, overcoming the betting favourite Pyrolysis ($3) to score her first career win in the Asahi Super Dry Plate (1200m).
Adrian Bott, who co-trains the filly, praised her progress and potential.
“Getting out that slight bit in distance today helped but having that race experience, she knew what it was all about today,” Bott said.
“She was switched on and she put herself in the race nicely.”
Bott expects Tomato Toastie to go for a spell and return as an even better prospect, describing her as a “lovely filly in time.”
He also noted the origin of her name, saying, “They’re always too darn hot, a tomato toastie.”
