Geelong will aim to cement its place in the top four when it takes on a depleted Essendon outfit at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. The Cats extended their winning streak to four with a 24-point victory over Gold Coast last weekend, holding the Suns to just 37 points in torrential conditions. Max Holmes was dominant in Bailey Smith’s absence, racking up 40 disposals and 10 clearances in a best-on-ground performance.

Essendon, meanwhile, showed grit in clawing back a 38-point deficit against Carlton before falling just short. Despite the spirited effort, the Bombers remain undermanned, with injuries continuing to take their toll.

Recent matchups don’t bode well for Essendon, with Geelong winning the past seven encounters by an average of more than eight goals. Given the Cats’ form and the Bombers’ struggles, Chris Scott’s side will enter as firm favourites in what could be another one-sided affair.
