Miss Kim Kar keeping Queensland racing carnival hopes alive

Miss Kim Kar, whose name cheekily nods to American celebrity Kim Kardashian, will line up at Randwick on Saturday with the potential to earn a winter carnival campaign in Queensland.

The three-year-old filly is out of Kardashing, and while trainer Bjorn Baker isn’t certain who came up with the clever name, he knows her all-female ownership group is thoroughly enjoying the journey as she builds an impressive record.

“I don’t know who named her, but she is well named,” Baker said.

“It’s a female syndicate and they’re having a great time at the moment so hopefully that can continue.”

Miss Kim Kar returned this preparation with two minor placings before charging home for a strong win over 1400m on heavy ground at Randwick. That was her fourth career victory from just eight starts, showing both talent and consistency.

She returns to Randwick to contest the Drinkwise Mile (1600m) and looks well placed under the conditions and at this stage of her campaign.

“She is fourth-up at the mile so she looks really well suited,” Baker said.

“From the gate (barrier six) we will be able to put her where she’s comfortable.

“She is a promising filly. She’s four from eight so she is going the right way.

“She’s not overly big but she is all heart, very genuine and we love taking horses to the races like that.”

A $3.20 betting apps favourite on Thursday, Miss Kim Kar will be considered for northern targets if she performs well this weekend.

“If she happens to go well we could possibly look at some races up in Queensland,” he said.

“She is a filly that has continued to improve with every start she has had.”
