Parramatta’s breakthrough victory last weekend has been overshadowed by a devastating injury as they prepare to host a Canberra side coming off a dramatic escape.
The Eels claimed their first win under rookie coach Jason Ryles in thrilling fashion, overcoming a 12-point deficit and securing victory in golden point, thanks to Zac Lomax’s boot. However, the star recruit has now been sidelined for six weeks, marking a significant setback for the team.
Lomax had been named on the wing for the upcoming match, with a replacement yet to be confirmed. Despite this blow, Parramatta will look to build on positive performances, such as Dylan Brown’s standout display and the continued development of fullback Isaiah Iongi.
Canberra, after a difficult 2-2 start, including consecutive road losses to Manly and North Queensland, managed to grab a 24-20 win over Cronulla last Thursday. The Raiders pulled off a remarkable try from their own half with just two minutes remaining to seal the victory.
The Raiders defeated the Eels in both of their 2023 (26-18) and 2024 (41-8) encounters, both of which were held at GIO Stadium. Matt Timoko and Hudson Young were try-scorers in both matches. However, the Eels have had success at CommBank Stadium, winning the only two matchups held there.
While Parramatta will be encouraged by their win last week – supported by improved defense in previous losses – the absence of Lomax is a significant blow. Given their strong overall form in 2025, Canberra looks set to have too much attacking power for the Eels to overcome.
