Talented juvenile Yes Queen will be out to impress champion rider William Pike this Saturday as she looks to cement her spot in the upcoming Group 2 Karrakatta Plate.

Her Karrakatta plans took a slight stumble when she was narrowly defeated as favourite in the recent Gimcrack Stakes (1000m), finishing second after a tough run on speed. That defeat saw Luana Miss leapfrog her in Karrakatta markets.

Much of the early hype surrounding Yes Queen came after her dazzling debut win in the Crystal Slipper Stakes (1100m) last November, which was followed by a stunning six-length trial victory.

William Pike remains undecided on which filly he’ll ride in the Karrakatta, with other top contenders including God’s Rapture, Snitzalatte, Elite Beau and She’s Hot also in the mix.

Despite the recent defeat, Pike came away impressed with Yes Queen’s effort in the Supremacy Stakes and believes it was a performance full of grit.

“I was still very happy with her,” Pike said on Tabradio.

“She still hung on and ran second and you could argue nothing went right.

“She jumped well and there was one with good speed that kicked underneath me.

“I was then just eye-balling another runner the whole way and to still hang on for second I think added merit to it.

“Other one-dimensional type of horses would have caved in and run last, and she didn’t, she stuck to her guns.

“I was really happy with it, I really thought she was going to compound and run worse than what she did.

“It’s up to the clever people with their stop watches whether they jump on or jump off, but I was happy with her.

“That run under her belt will do the world of good too and the edge will be off her.”

In the Karrakatta futures, Luana Miss leads the way at $4.20, followed closely by Yes Queen at $4.40. Talkanco sits at $4.80, with God’s Rapture and She’s Hot both at $7. Snitzalatte is $8.50 and Elite Beau is at $11.
