Tentyris upsets Wodeton in Todman Stakes as Golden Slipper looms

Victorian colt Tentyris has upset Sydney’s top colts in the Todman Stakes, adding to the Blue Diamond form ahead of the $5 million Golden Slipper.

Just 35 minutes after Tempted won the Reisling Stakes, Tentyris, who finished second in the Blue Diamond, stormed home to defeat Slipper favourite Wodeton in the colts and geldings division.

The win is a boost for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman, who recently set up a Sydney base to compete in top-tier races. Freedman explained, “To be honest, if you want to win these big races, you need a base up here.”

By Street Boss, Tentyris had improved quickly since his debut and was last seen finishing runner-up in the Blue Diamond. Saturday’s win placed him as a $7 second favourite for the Golden Slipper.

Freedman is confident Tentyris is a genuine contender, while jockey Nash Rawiller called the win “no fluke” and labeled him “the real deal.”

Tentyris won by three-quarters of a length over Wodeton ($2), with Nepotism ($41) third.
