Taumata leaves NRL club No.7

Serial bad boy Arana Taumata has been granted an immediate release from his seventh NRL club, Penrith.

The Panthers issued a statement on Tuesday saying they had released 23-year-old Taumata at his request but gave no explanation for the reason behind it.

“The club wishes Arana all the best for his future endeavours, and will make no further comment on this matter,” the club said in a statement.

Taumata was sacked from his first five NRL clubs – Brisbane, Sydney Roosters, Melbourne, Wests Tigers and Canterbury before being released by North Queensland.

He joined Penrith in 2011 and controversy followed him when last year he stole a blank prescription from the club doctor and tried to use it in a chemist.

Taumata was given a reprieve by Penrith after pleading guilty and being placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond by a magistrate last August.

Taumata did nothing to clarify the reasons for his departure from the Panthers when he announced it on Twitter.

“Today I have made a decision to leave @PenrithPanthers. I look forward to the new challenges in my life. Thanks everyone for your support.”
