The James Cummings trained Avilius is searching for back to back wins in the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Randwick on Saturday after scoring a convincing win last year.

Cummings will also saddle up Australian Oaks winner Colette while Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller will have four runners in the $500,000 weight for age contest over the Randwick 1600m.

Waller will saddle up Kolding, Imaging, Star Of The Seas and Verry Elleegant.

Avilius

Avilius was the winner of the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick last year but hasn’t found the winner’s stall since.

Trainer James Cummings gave Avilius two lead up runs before last year’s win but he has restricted the seven year old to one run this year leading into the George Main Stakes.

Avilius had trouble staying in touch with the front runners in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes a fortnight ago but was doing his best work at the finish and made up many lengths over the concluding stages to finish in fourth spot, 1.2 lengths from the winner Mister Sea Wolf.

That effort was outstanding and Avilius is on track to score back to back George Main Stakes wins.

Dreamforce

Dreamforce set the pace but weakened when a well beaten fifthteenth in the Group 1 Winx Stakes over 1400m at Randwick on August 22 but the bounced back with an all the way win in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes over the Randwick 1400m again.

Dreamforce is a two times winner over the Randwick Mile and if he gets his own way on front could prove hard to run down.

Kolding

Kolding had been struggling to regain his 2019 Spring Carnival form that saw him win the Group 1 Epsom Handicap over the Randwick 1600m course followed by a win in the $7.5m Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill.

The Ocean Park five year old looks to be getting back to his best with a much improved second up second in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick a fortnight ago.

Further improvement could see Kolding share in the major end of the prizemoney.

Imaging

Imaging is yet to win at Group 1 level but did run his best race in that company last start with a close up fourth in the Winx Stakes over 1400m at Randwick.

The Group 1 George Main Stakes is no easier and he could figure in the minor money again.

Star Of The Seas

Star Of The Seas is yet to salute at the top level but has been Group 1 placed  on three occasions, including his last start second to Verry Elleegant in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick four weeks ago.

Star Of The Seas’ other two Group 1 placings were over the Randwick Mile with a third in the 2019 Epsom Handicap and a second in the Doncaster Mile during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival.

Another bold performance is on the cards.

Verry Elleegant

Verry Elleegant has excellent form at the middle distances and the staying trips in the past with three Group 1 wins on her record, but showcased her versatility with a dynamic first up win in the Group 1 Winx Stakes over 1400m at Randwick four weeks ago.

The Chris Waller trained Verry Elleegant is certain to take plenty of improvement from her Winx Stakes win and looks the one top beat again.

Colette

Colette was the winner of the Group 1 Australian Oaks over 2400m at Randwick during the 2020 Sydney Carnival and will be better suited over the longer trips later on in her praparation.

The Hallowed Crown mare will strip fitter for her first up run but will find this opposition tougher in the George Main Stakes as she tackles weight for age for the first time.
