Italy’s Mugello circuit will make its debut on the Formula One calendar in September to host Ferrari’s 1,000th grand prix, while Russia’s race in Sochi has also been confirmed.
The September 13 race, to be called the Grand Prix of Tuscany Ferrari 1,000, will follow on from the September 6 Italian Grand Prix at Monza as the ninth round of a season that has been heavily revised due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Russia will host the 10th race on September 27 in the home of 2014 Winter Olympics.
F1 gave details of the races as practice started for Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix, the second of two consecutive races in Austria’s Spielberg.
“We are delighted to announce Mugello and Sochi will be part of the 2020 calendar and want to thank all our partners for their support in recent weeks,” said F1 chief Chase Carey.
“We had great start to our season in Austria last weekend and we are increasingly confident in our plans to race throughout the remainder of 2020.”
Formula One said in a statement it still expected to stage between 15-18 rounds in a championship that started at Austria’s Red Bull Ring last weekend.
Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes won the delayed season-opener last Sunday while the Hungarian Grand Prix completes a three-race burst to start the campaign on July 19.
There is then a week off before two British races at Silverstone, August 2 and 9, before Spain (August 16) and Belgium (August 30).
The calendar from Russia onwards remains open before the November-December conclusion in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
