Tassie all out for 448 v WA in Shield

Western Australia face the mountainous task of making 381 if Tasmania are to bat for a second time in the Sheffield Shield match at Bellerive.

The Tigers have been dismissed for 448 on day two, a total that included a defiant 93-run final wicket partnership between James Faulkner (76no) and Jackson Bird (26) as the wheels fell off for WA.

The partnership was the home side’s best against the Warriors at Bellerive and came after Ben Dunk top-scored with 97 and skipper George Bailey made 66.

The Warriors need a massive improvement in their batting after they made just 67 in their first dig to give new coach Justin Langer something to take out of his first Shield game at the helm.

He can at least take the performance of paceman Mitchell Johnson with him after the former Test spearhead’s fiery 4-103.

Johnson floored Tigers keeper Tim Paine with a vicious bouncer and hit several others in picking up his scalps with a menacing display of speed.

The 31-year-old had Bailey caught at deep fine leg at 4-275 before Paine (4) and Luke Butterworth (2) were out to slips catches from superb deliveries for 6-295.

A short ball at Xavier Doherty’s throat had the spinner fending a catch to short leg and on his way for two at 9-355.

A prolonged verbal battle between Johnson and Faulkner then followed as the Tigers allrounder mounted his brave cameo.
