James Duckworth’s rise up the tennis rankings has earned him selection in Australia’s Davis Cup squad.
The right-hander is in the frame for a cup debut when Australia host Brazil in a qualifying tie in Adelaide on March 6-7.
The winner of the tie will reach the cup finals in November in Madrid, Spain.
Duckworth, who reached a career-high singles ranking of world No.71 last week, joins Nick Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur, John Millman and Jordan Thompson in Australia’s five-man team.
Duckworth won the ATP Challenger event in Bengaluru, India, earlier this month – his fifth challenger title in the past year.
“Getting the opportunity to represent my country is extremely special,” Duckworth said on Tuesday.
“I have been part of a few ties before and I love the lead-up week, being able to train and spend time with all the boys as a team is always a lot of fun.”
Brazil have yet to announce their team, expected to be anchored by Thiago Monteiro, the nation’s highest-ranked singles player at 88.
