Rookie legspinner James Muirhead has been named in Victoria’s Sheffield Shield squad to face Western Australia at the MCG starting on Thursday.
With Andrew McDonald, Glenn Maxwell, Rob Quiney and John Hastings all absent on Australia A duties, the 19-year-old is one of four changes to the side that drew with Tasmania last week.
Fresh from centuries in the recent 2nd XI fixture against NSW, Aaron Finch and Peter Handscomb have been recalled alongside Alex Keath, while Jayde Herrick has overcome his injury concerns to be included in the first-class arena for the first time this summer.
Muirhead has made two appearances for the Adelaide Strikers during the inaugural Big Bash League, and his elevation comes after a season-ending shoulder injury to Jon Holland.
Vic: Cameron White (capt), Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, Jayde Herrick, David Hussey, Alex Keath, Clint McKay, James Muirhead, James Pattinson, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Matthew Wade.
