Greater Western Sydney ruckman Jonathan Giles has resisted offers from several other AFL clubs and signed a new three-year deal with the Giants.
Giles, 24, was one of the success stories for GWS in their debut season, kicking 18 goals in 20 games and being the club’s leading vote-getter in the Brownlow Medal count.
Giles had attracted considerable interest from Adelaide, who are chasing a replacement for departing ruck-forward Kurt Tippett.
“After waiting a long time to get an opportunity to play AFL football, I really enjoyed my first year at the Giants,” said Giles.
“There’s no doubt there’s a lot of terrific young talent at the club and it has a really exciting future.”
GWS have also been linked to Carlton tall utility Bret Thornton, who is an unrestricted free agent.
