Dangerfield, Setterfield face AFL scrutiny

Patrick Dangerfield’s availability for the AFL’s Easter Monday blockbuster and his Brownlow Medal eligibility are set to be decided.

Match review officer Michael Christian will on Monday review an off-the-ball incident where the Geelong midfield ace threw a couple of forearms at his GWS tagger Matt de Boer.

Dangerfield collected de Boer in the midriff, doubling him over, and then perhaps made contact with the top of his head.

It comes a week after Richmond star Dustin Martin ended up with a one-game suspension for elbowing de Boer off the ball.

The ban means Martin is now ineligible for the Brownlow.

Like Martin, Dangerfield is a former Brownlow Medallist.

The speculation is that Dangerfield will be fined for Saturday’s incident, meaning he can still win this year’s Brownlow.

A fine would also means he plays in the big Easter Monday match against Hawthorn at the MCG.

Cats coach Chris Scott dismissed the Dangerfield-de Boer incident, saying an umpire was nearby and no free kick was paid.

But Carlton’s Will Setterfield could be in strife for a tackle that concussed Gold Coast opponent Wil Powell.

The Suns player’s head hit the ground in the tackle and Setterfield, like Dangerfield, is sure to come under scrutiny.
