Roger Federer is finally through to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.

The fourth-seeded Federer had little trouble defeating 13th-seeded Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-2 in 61 minutes on Wednesday, earning the three-time Swiss champion a spot in the last eight against sixth-seeded Kevin Anderson.

The Federer-Medvedev match was originally scheduled for Tuesday and wound up being delayed a day by rain.

Federer broke Medvedev in the ninth game of the opening set, survived a 0-40 deficit to close out that set on serve and then broke the Russian again in the first game of the second set.

Federer leads Anderson – who is coming back from an elbow injury – 5-1 in their head-to-head record, which includes four hard-court victories.

The winner of their showdown will face Canadian teen Denis Shapovalov or American 21-year-old Frances Tiafoe, with both encounters set for Thursday.

Wednesday’s quarter-finals pit Novak Djokovic’s conqueror Roberto Bautista Agut against defending champion John Isner and Canadian teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime against Borna Coric, who accounted for Australian Nick Kyrgios in the round of 16.
