Andreescu crushes Muguruza at Indian Wells

Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu has hammered two-times grand slam champion Garbine Muguruza to advance to the semi-finals of the WTA premier event at Indian Wells.

The 18-year-old tournament wildcard won 83 per cent of her first serve points, more than double that of the 20th-seeded Spaniard, and converted five of her seven break-point opportunities in the 6-0 6-1 blowout.

Andreescu smashed a forehand winner on her first match point to seal the 52-minute win.

She has grown familiar with victory of late with Wednesday’s success her 26th win of the year, the most of any WTA player.

The result sealed Andreescu’s third and biggest semi-final of the season after her breakthrough run to the Auckland final and appearance in the last four of Acapulco two weeks ago.

Next up for the world No.60 is a meeting with sixth-seeded Elina Svitolina or 19-year-old Marketa Vondrousova, who play their quarter-final match later on Wednesday.
