Tim Glasby’s move to Newcastle has helped him put aside the pain of losing last year’s NRL grand final with Melbourne.
Glasby ended his Storm career on a sour note last September when he copped his second grand final loss in three years, going down 21-6 to the Roosters.
The Queensland State of Origin prop relocated to Newcastle in November and started pre-season training before Christmas.
“It’s certainly something I care about,” Glasby told AAP of the grand final loss.
“It was a very tough loss. But that’s how footy is sometimes.
“But I did have the move and change of scenery to take my mind off it. My focus went immediately elsewhere.
“While I had a bit of mourning period about the grand final like everyone would, the change did probably help me a bit.”
Glasby has played finals football every year of his career since his first full year in the NRL in 2014.
In comparison, Newcastle’s finals drought is the second longest in the NRL having not featured in the playoffs since 2013.
But he is one of 16 players in the Knights’ squad with finals experience, totalling 96 games between them.
And with the potential of a number of their young players, Glasby is confident they are not far away from being capable of playing finals football together.
“Their attitude has been fantastic,” Glasby said.
“All we’ve wanted to do is put that attitude and work ethic towards learning the game and fixing up some technical aspects that as a group and individuals everyone has needed to work on.
“I have seen a lot of change and improvement.”
