Men’s top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas has been knocked out of the Sydney International after being upset by Andreas Seppi in their quarter-final.
The 15th-ranked Tsitsipas appeared on his way to booking a semi-final berth when he took the first set, but lost the final two sets on Thursday to the world No.37 to go down 6-4 4-6 4-6.
Seppi will meet Diego Schwartzman after the third seed’s defeat of qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka, 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-1), in the second final-eight match-up on day five.
The remaining two quarter-finals will feature Australians, including an all-local affair between Alex de Minaur and Jordan Thompson.
The victor will square off against another Australian John Millman or fourth seed Gilles Simon, who meet on Thursday night.
De Minaur, the nation’s top-ranked male, lost last year’s final to Daniiel Medvedev.
