GB has glimmer of hope at Hopman Cup

Cameron Norrie kept Great Britain’s very slim chances of making the Hopman Cup final alive with a straight-sets win over American Frances Tiafoe in Perth on Thursday.

Tiafoe broke Norrie’s serve early in the first set, as he searched for his first singles victory of the tournament.

But the Brit gained some rhythm in his serve, broke back to level the set at 5-5 and then controlled the tiebreak.

Norrie breezed through the second set to win 7-6 (7-5) 6-0 in 69 minutes.

To claim Group B Great Britain needs to win the mixed doubles or Katie Boulter needs to upset Serena Williams in the women’s singles.

They will then rely on Maria Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece beating the Swiss pairing of Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic on Thursday night.
