Carlton’s Jed Lamb to front AFL tribunal

Carlton’s Jed Lamb will head to the AFL tribunal to contest his fine for striking Western Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli.

Lamb copped a $2000 sanction after flooring Bontempelli with an elbow to the back during Sunday’s game at Etihad Stadium which the Bulldogs won by 17 points.

The Blues midfielder will be the only player to front the tribunal on Tuesday night with 10 other players, including Sydney’s Luke Parker, accepting fines.

Lamb’s decision to challenge the charge means he faces a $3000 fine if found guilty.

AFL match review officer Michael Christian assessed the incident as intentional conduct with low impact to the body.

There was talk that Bontempelli had milked the contact but coach Luke Beveridge said the Bulldogs star was nursing a sore back after he was hurt in last week’s win over North Melbourne.

“He got a hit right on that spot he landed on last week – there’s no way Marcus Bontempelli would ever take a dive,” Beveridge said.
