Longmire happy with ‘solid’ Swans

Sydney coach John Longmire says he’s pleased with the way the Swans are playing despite losing two of their past three games heading into Saturday’s crunch AFL fixture at Geelong.

A final-round win will secure a top-two spot for Sydney, but a loss will likely result in them slipping to third.

Longmire said he firmly believed Sydney’s form had stood up despite losses to Collingwood and Hawthorn either side of a convincing win over the lowly Western Bulldogs.

“I’m actually pretty pleased the way we’re playing because it’s the sort of pressure footy we want to play,” Longmire said.

“We’ve been having 70, 80 tackles and you know that stands up in pressure games, and almost stood up for us last week so that’s what we’ve got to continue to do.

“I don’t think we’ve been in bad form at all.

“I think our form has been pretty solid against absolute quality opposition and that’s what we’ve just got to try and continue to do.”

Resurgent defending premiers Geelong have clinched a finals spot by winning seven of their past nine games since losing to Sydney at the SCG.

“They are a lot better now, they have made some certain changes and their good players are playing really well,” Longmire said.

“We got off to a good start last time and they got themselves back in the game just because of the competitors they are and the absolute quality players they’ve got in their team.

“They are a better team now and we know they will be a harder proposition to beat.”
