Anthony Minichiello is expecting Canterbury coach Des Hasler to name his strongest team for the clash with the Sydney Roosters on Saturday and use the game as a springboard into the finals.
With the minor premiership in their keeping, Hasler rested captain and hooker Michael Ennis from last Friday’s match with Canberra and the Bulldogs were humbled 34-6 by the Raiders.
Last year, Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy, also with the minor premiership wrapped up, rested his star players for the final round match with the Roosters and the Storm were belted 40-8 before they were knocked out of the finals in straight sets.
But Minichiello, who celebrated his 250th NRL game for the Roosters with a 44-20 win over Wests Tigers on Sunday, expects the Ennis-led Bulldogs to show up for Canterbury’s final game of the regular season at ANZ Stadium.
“I watched their game against the Raiders and they were a bit out of sorts but I think they’ll bounce back,” Minichiello said.
“They rested Ennis last week but I’m pretty sure they’ll want to go into the finals with some good form, so it’s going to be a tough match for us.”
“The way Dessie coaches he wants to win every game … I’m pretty sure they’ll play their full strength team.”
