Gavrilova out of WTA event, Wozniacki wins

Australian interests at the WTA tournament at Indian Wells are over after Daria Gavrilova lost to Caroline Garcia in straight sets.

Gavrilova was beaten 7-5 6-4 by the seventh-seeded Frenchwoman in a third-round match which lasted almost two hours.

The 26th seed was the only Australian in the round of 32 with Ashleigh Barty and Samantha Stosur failing to progress past the second round.

Garcia will meet Angelique Kerber in the round of 16 after the former world No.1 accounted for 24th-seeded Russian Elena Vesnina 7-5 6-2.

World No.2 Caroline Wozniacki was pushed to a third set by Aliaksandra Sasnovich but booked her spot in the next round with a 6-4 2-6 6-3 victory.

The Dane needed two hours and 17 minutes to get past the world No.49 Belarusian.

The run of American wildcard Danielle Rose Collins, who eliminated the 15th-seeded Madison Keys in the second round, continued with a 6-4 6-4 win over Russian wildcard Sofya Zhuk.
