Eagles tell Walker to keep on sledging

Don’t change a thing.

That’s Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans’ advice to serial niggler Dylan Walker whose expletive-ridden sledges have riled Penrith ahead of their NRL elimination final.

The Sea Eagles centre heads into Saturday’s do-or-die clash against Penrith with a target on his back after getting under the skin of the Panthers during last week’s final-round win.

Walker successfully put the Panthers players off their game with a series of verbal sprays and has been told to expect payback in their return clash at Allianz Stadium.

Despite his confrontational verbal tirades feeding motivation to their opposition, Cherry-Evans said he wouldn’t want Walker to change how he goes about his business.

“I’m happy for Dylan to do whatever it takes to play well and win us a football game,” Cherry-Evans said.

Walker has this year earned a reputation as a niggle merchant and one of the game’s best sledgers.

After booting the game-winning golden-point conversion against Canberra in round eight, he got up in the face of the shattered Raiders players and exclaimed: ‘woooo, what do you think of that?’

Asked what sort of reception Walker should expect from the Panthers after sinking their spirits last week, Cherry-Evans said: “Maybe the same one that Canberra gives him.

“Dylan’s Dylan. He’s not going to change. He’s not going to let anything affect him.

“He plays rugby league a bit uniquely but it works for him. I hope they invest a lot of energy into Dylan because we’re not a one-man team.”
