Essendon’s Orazio Fantasia and Michael Hurley look set to take on Sydney in the AFL elimination final after completing training but Cale Hooker was a notable absentee.
Fantasia (hamstring) and Hurley (calf) took part in the Bombers’ training drills on Wednesday and match simulation and moved well.
But swingman Hooker did some passing drills with a trainer and spent time on the sidelines talking to the team doctor without joining the main group.
Teammate Brendon Goddard said Hooker had done some non-weight bearing running inside instead of training with teammates and, given his value to the team, he would be given until the last minute.
“We’d like to have him there and he’s doing everything he can,” Goddard said.
“He’s running on the Alter-G machine so we’ll get a gauge of how he pulls up.”
Goddard said he spoken with Hurley and Fantasia after Wednesday’s session and the pair told him they were confident of facing the Swans at the SCG on Saturday.
