Essendon’s No.1 draft pick Andrew McGrath has won the AFL Rising Star award.
The defender and midfielder polled 51 votes, beating Hawthorn’s Ryan Burton by 10.
This year is the first time four players have been in contention, with Port Adelaide midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper third on 35 and Carlton key forward Charlie Curnow next with 27 votes.
