Boak running out of time: Port AFL coach

Port Adelaide’s prime mover Travis Boak is running out of time to decide his AFL future, coach Matthew Primus says.

Primus and a core of Port’s senior players last weekend bluntly asked Victorian-born Boak his plans for next season and beyond.

But the highly-rated midfielder, out of contract at season’s end and considering returning to Victoria to be closer to his Geelong-based family, didn’t give a definitive answer.

“The elephant got pushed out of the room and we asked him,” Primus told reporters on Friday.

“And he just told us exactly what he has been telling us all the time – he’s still umming and ahhing about it with the family and he’ll let us know as soon as he’s ready.

“We would love to know sooner rather than later.

“We’ll continue to inquire about it and, the longer the season goes on, the more important the decision will be for us.”

Rival club Adelaide told their in-season defectors Nathan Bock and Phil Davis to immediately leave the Crows once they made their respective decisions to depart.

And Primus hoped Boak would not wait until season’s end to tell Port of his decision.

“It depends how close your relationship is and how strong it is,” Primus said.

“I would like to think if he did decide that he’s going to go, that he would tell me before the end of the year.”
