Blight to assist Suns coach

Malcolm Blight has stepped down as director of the Gold Coast AFL club in order to assist win-less Suns coach Guy McKenna.

Blight – a dual premiership coach with Adelaide – was on Tuesday handed a new role as part-time director of coaching at the Gold Coast.

The Brownlow Medalist is expected to be in the coach’s box with McKenna for Sunday’s clash with Geelong at Metricon Stadium.

It is believed Blight will assist McKenna the same way Rodney Eade aids Nathan Buckley at Collingwood and Mark Thompson guides James Hird at Essendon.

McKenna was handed a two-year contract extension this year, however, the Suns have lost 20 straight games including all 13 of this year’s fixtures.
