He’s been abused, insulted and called a traitor for playing for Queensland.
But Greg Inglis can’t help laughing every time he watches a YouTube video clip that sends up he and other Queensland State of Origin players.
Blues’ fans may never forgive the Bowraville, NSW-born Inglis for opting to play for Queensland — especially as his record 13 tries for the Maroons has been the difference between winning and losing some series.
Musical comedian Denis Carnahan sends up Inglis and several other Origin players not born in Queensland in his catchy and satirical song “That’s in Queensland” which Inglis says is “hilarious”.
Rugby League’s new Commission is under mounting pressure to amend Origin’s murky eligibility rules to make them clear cut following Kiwi James Tamou’s defection from New Zealand to play for NSW.
But Inglis said before Wednesday night’s State of Origin decider in Brisbane he had “no dramas” with players declaring their allegiance to either state if it was within the rules.
“I’ve been copping it for the last seven years, it’s time to get over it,” he laughed.
“I love that YouTube clip (That’s In Queensland) — it’s hilarious.
Carnahan has a go at Queensland for selecting players for Origin who were born in NSW, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
Inglis, who’ll play his 18th Origin at fullback on Wednesday night following the withdrawal of Billy Slater (knee) said he was never a Blues supporter.
“I always just loved the game to be honest,” he said.
“I remember sitting in the family loungeroom (in Bowraville) with my cousins and we’d all cheer for Queensland.
“That’s the way it was.
