Racing News:

Mick Price already has the trainer’s trophy from Adelaide’s first $1 million race in his keeping and will be two handed in his pursuit of another.

The Price-trained Secret Agenda won the UBET Classic last Saturday week and will try to add the Goodwood, also over 1200 metres, to her record.

She will be joined at Morphettville on Saturday by stablemate Bassett, an unlucky sixth in the Group Three D C McKay Stakes the same day the mare won the Group One Classic.

Damien Oliver rode both horses but sticks with Secret Agenda with Mark Zahra to ride Bassett.

Both horses have remained in Adelaide since their latest efforts with Price ruing Bassett’s misfortune.

“I think he clearly should have won,” Price said.

“He was on heels for the last 100 metres and by then his momentum had gone.

“For him to finish within a length of them and have no luck tells you one part of the Goodwood might be even an even contest.”

Price said he was concerned before Secret Agenda’s win in the UBET Classic the track may not be wet enough.

But Oliver dismissed those fears saying pre-race the track was perfect.

Oliver produced a masterful ride to lead throughout to land his 111th Group One win.

“I thought on a genuine wet track she was the one to beat,” Price said.

“From barrier 16 on a soft five I thought it took the advantage away from her.

“She’s a heavy mare, a very strong sprinting mare but can look after herself a bit.”

Price believes the Goodwood is an open race despite last year’s winner Black Heart Bart having a stranglehold on betting as the $3 favourite ahead of Tuesday’s final field and barrier draw..

Secret Agenda is an $11 chance with Bassett at $21 at bookmaker Luxbet.com.au.

Price questions whether 1200 metres is the defending titleholder’s best distance.

“It will be a field of 20 and is 1200 metres his best distance?” Price said.

“Anyway it will be an interesting race and I’ve got two nice chances.”
