Gold Coast forward Jarrod Wallace has continued his push for a maiden Queensland State of Origin berth with another stellar NRL performance.
The former Bronco ran for more than 200m in the Titans’ stunning 38-36 win over Melbourne, impressing his skipper in the process.
“He’s been good all year, he trucks the ball forward, does all the little things and he’s great to play with,” said Titans co-captain Ryan James.
“I’m very happy he came back down the coast to play with me.”
A Gold Coast junior, Wallace made his NRL debut for Brisbane in 2012 but moved back to the Titans at the start of 2017 in search of a starting spot and more game time.
The move south has paid dividends; Wallace has featured in all 10 of the Titans’ matches this season.
Against the Storm the prop set the foundations for their upset win over the competition leaders running for 120 of his 204m in the first 30 minutes.
He had 14 hit-ups and 20 tackles in his 55 minute stint at his former home ground continuing his good form in Queensland’s capital.
The 25 year-old ran for a startling 264m in round 7 against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
He has timed his run well with just over two weeks until the Origin opener is played at the ground where he has recorded 468m in his last two fixtures.
Wallace understands such performances won’t guarantee selection but he remains hopeful.
“I’d love to play Origin but that’s still a few weeks away. I’ve got to do as much as I can for our club,” he said.
“Me doing my job here is only going to lead to something like that down the track, I’m really focused on playing good football for the Titans and what happens, happens.”
Wallace, one of the Emerging Origin players banned for breaking curfew last year, will get his final chance to push for a Queensland spot when the Titans host Manly.
